Soccer Falls 4-0 to West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. The West Alabama women's soccer team continued their strong start in Gulf South Conference play with a 4-0 win over Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon in Livingston, Ala.

The Blazers (0-5-1, 0-2 GSC) held the Tigers (4-2, 2-0 GSC) scoreless until the 29th minute of the contest, when Chelsea Commings guided a header off the crossbar and into the net to give UWA a 1-0 lead.

West Alabama continued to pressure the Blazer defense from that point forward and extended their lead by two just before halftime when Kirsten Reilly was awarded a penalty kick opportunity and converted on the try.

Shortly after the halftime break, Reilly struck again on a putback goal for her second score of the match, and Marie Dreezen closed out the scoring and put UWA up 4-0 in the 59th minute with her first goal of the season.

Logan Lindy and Mallory McDaniel teamed up to post four of Valdosta State's eight shots in the contest, and the pair delivered one shot on goal apiece.

Valdosta State makes their long-awaited return home on Friday, September 23rd, when the Blazers host West Florida. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff, and live coverage will be available right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
