Next Up for Lady Blazer Basketball: West Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga. The Lady Blazers of Valdosta State hope to use their return to The Complex in Valdosta, Ga. as an opportunity to return to early season form, beginning with a Saturday showdown against the rival Wolves of West Georgia at 2:00 p.m. in Titletown.

Kiley Hill's Lady Blazer club is looking to bounce back from a tough stretch of conference games in recent weeks that have dropped Valdosta State to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in Gulf South Conference play. Despite the team's struggles, VSU has shown signs of life in spurts, as shown in Monday night's first half effort against Union, the Division II's No. 14 ranked women's basketball team. Although Valdosta State fell to the Lady Bulldogs in the contest, the Lady Blazers went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's best throughout the first two quarters, and will aim to duplicate that first half effort when they return home this weekend.

Valdosta State will aim to build on their strong defensive efforts so far in the 2015-16 season, in which the Lady Blazers have held their opponents to an average of only 57.3 points per game. As a result, the Lady Blazers rank as the second-best defensive team in the GSC and should match up well with West Georgia (2-12, 2-6 GSC), who ranks 11th in the league with scoring average of 54.1 points per contest.

The history between the Lady Blazers and the Wolves consists of 68 matchups, with VSU leading the all-time series 37-31. Hill, now in his 16th year at Valdosta State, enters Saturday's matchup with a 274-167 record at VSU.
