Volleyball Wins Again With 3-0 Victory Over West Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga. Valdosta State volleyball's incredible run on their home floor continued on Friday night, as the Blazers blasted the rival Wolves of West Georgia in convincing fashion in Valdosta, Ga. on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-18) win.

"We got quality points tonight from everybody," said Head Coach Mike Swan after the match. "Overall I thought we played very tough over a much improved West Georgia team this year."

A majority of the those quality points came from Antia Rodriguez-Sanchez, who dominated the match offensively with a .565 hitting effort. The junior transfer from Spain hammered out 13 kills on 23 attempts without a single attack error. She also contributed two blocking assists in the contest on defense to help hold the Wolves to a .141 hitting percentage.

"Antia had a great night tonight," said Blazer setter Jessica Codato, who dished out 35 assists on the night. "She's been one of our big players this year. I think she's been growing a lot throughout the year, and this match is just her first big one. I'm sure she's going to have a lot of big ones coming up."

Freshman Ashley Miller delivered another standout performance at the middle blocker position, connecting for six kills in 10 attempts en route to a .500 hitting percentage on the night. Additionally, Susanna Peonia continued her consistent effort both offensively and defensively, with a .385 hitting percentage and four blocks, and Natalia Campos posted a team-high 14 digs for her sixth straight match with double-digits in the column.

The Blazers hit .317 as a team in the contest with 44 kills on 101 attempts. The effort extended VSU's home winning streak to 16 and boosted the team to a perfect 6-0 on the year, 2-0 in GSC play. The Wolves, meanwhile, evened up their overall record at 3-3 and dropped to 0-2 in league action.

The busy weekend continues tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at The Complex, when the Blazers welcome the West Alabama Tigers to town.
