VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Valdosta State women's soccer team traveled to face off with conference opponent Christian Brothers on Friday night in Memphis, Tenn. and lost a battle in heartbreaking fashion, 0-1.
The Blazers put up a fight throughout the whole game, producing nine shots (3 on goal) in an aggressive offensive effort, but were never able to convert. VSU's Ava Scott Moncrief,
Shelby Jennings and
Jordan Humbert each contributed on the attack, with two shots each in the hard fought contest.
The VSU defense proved to be strong, once again backed up by goalkeeper
McCall Gardner. Gardner came up with a sensational night with nine saves to give the Blazers a fighting chance to take control of the game. However, CBU's Melissa Tammi entered a one on one situation in the final minute of regulation, leaving Gardner behind and scoring the deciding goal to give CBU the 1-0 advantage.
The Bucs improved to 4-1-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play, whereas the Blazers fell to 1-4-0 and 0-1 in GSC competition.
The Blazers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 20
th at home against Delta State University for another conference match. The game is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m at the VSU Soccer Complex.
