VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State looks to end a recent losing streak as the Blazers host Delta State in Gulf South Conference action at The Complex Saturday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m.
The Blazers enter the game with a 9-12 overall record, including a 4-12 mark in Gulf South Conference action. VSU has dropped each of its last four games. Meanwhile, DSU enters the contest with an even 11-11 record, including an 8-8 mark in league action, but has dropped its last five games.
Valdosta State averages 76.4 points per game on the season while allowing 79.3. The Blazers shoot 42.7 percent from the field and tallies 37.5 rebounds a game. Three Blazer average double figures points, led by
James Spencer at 14.3. Spencer also leads VSU in rebounding at 7.2 per game and is second on the team in blocked shots at 15.
Blake Justice adds 12.3 points a game and has hit a team-high 44 three-pointers while
Colin Cook, who is 10th nationally in blocked shots at 2.5 per game, averages 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.
Detla State features a high-powered offense as the Statesmen average 79.6 points a game and shoot 49.6 percent from the field. DSU shoots 41.7 percent from beyond the three-point line and 76.8 percent from the free throw line. Five DSU players average double figures in points, led by Devin Schmidt at 19.6 a game. Schmidt also leads the team with 89 assists and 28 steals, but has also committed a team-high 88 turnovers. Turnovers have proven to be the Statesmen's problem on the year as they average 16.6 per game.
