VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team hosted West Florida on Saturday night for Senior Night, and the Gulf South Conference matchup ended in favor of the Argonauts, as the Lady Blazers fell 75-71 at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
The Lady Blazers took an early lead in the first half and held the advantage for the first seven minutes. VSU slipped a bit midway through the frame, however, when the Argonauts pieced together a 17-6 run to take a 32-22 lead with 7:06 to go in the half.
VSU came roaring back in the ensuing minutes though, and senior
April Thomas put an exclamation point on the frame with a three ball at the buzzer that cut UWF's lead to two points at 37-35.
In the second half, Valdosta State hung around for the first 14 minutes of the period and sent the Blazer faithful into a frenzy when freshman
Jo Bistrow buried a three pointer from the wing with 6:29 on the clock to give VSU a 63-62 lead.
VSU added to the lead with a bucket on their next possession, but UWF posted a 9-3 run on the shoulders of sophomore Katie Bobos over the course of the next five minutes to take a 71-68 lead.
The Lady Blazers earned possession and a chance to tie the game with under 15 seconds to play in regulation, but Thomas' three point attempt was just long, and the Argonauts escaped with the win.

Imari Simpson racked up 13 points,
Amy Duke scored 11 and
Jordan Waugh added 10.
Maggie Davis led the rebounding effort for Valdosta State with seven boards.
