VALDOSTA, Ga. - The longstanding rivalry between the Valdosta State Lady Blazers and the West Georgia Wolves continues on Saturday at The Complex for the annual Pink Out game at 6:00 p.m., where the Lady Blazers will team up with the Partnership Cancer Fund to host
silent auctions, raffles, and more in an effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness. All proceeds raised on the night will go directly to the Partnership Cancer Fund. After Thursday night's win over West Alabama, the Lady Blazers (13-13, 9-11 GSC) distanced themselves from Alabama-Huntsville and moved into sixth place outright. Meanwhile UAH resides in the seventh place position and Shorter and West Alabama stand tied in eighth place.
The Lady Blazers have faced West Georgia (17-9, 11-8 GSC) 67 times over the course of the program's 40 year history with 36 wins against 31 losses. If Valdosta State can knock off the Wolves on Saturday night, the Lady Blazers will clinch a spot in the 2015 Gulf South Conference playoff.
The Valdosta State defense will aim to make a strong showing will face the challenge of the league's second best scorer, Taylor Beverly. Beverly, an athletic forward out of Brandon, Miss., holds a points per game average of 18.3 this year and also serves as the GSC's leading rebounder with a 10.4 rebounds per game average.
Both teams are in the midst of a hot streak, as Valdosta State is coming off of a pair of wins against Christian Brothers and UWA, while West Georgia is riding the wave of a four game winning streak. The Wolves' most recent victory came against the league's No. 2 team, West Florida, on Thursday night in Pensacola, Fla.
Tip time for Saturday's key conference matchup is slated for 6:00 p.m. at The Complex, and the Lady Blazers invite Blazer Nation to join the team on Saturday evening in their efforts to raise awareness for breast cancer.
