Men's Basketball Preview: West Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga. - A pair of in-state rivals meet as Valdosta State hosts West Georgia in Gulf South Conference action at The Complex Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m.

The Blazers look to snap an eight-game losing streak that has dropped VSU's record to 9-17 on the season. Valdosta State is now 4-16 in GSC play, which is ninth in the league standings. Meanwhile, West Georgia enters the contest with an 18-7 overall record and is third in the league standings with a 13-7 conference record.

Valdosta State averages 75.8 points a contest and allows opponents 80.0 per outing. The Blazers shoot 42.3 percent from the floor, including 32.0 percent from beyond the free throw line, and make 69.4 percent from the free throw line. James Spencer leads VSU at 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while Blake Justice adds 11.5 points and Jeff Nibo and Colin Cook 10.0 each.

West Georgia features one of the top backcourts in the nation and are led by sophomore guard Deonta Stocks, who averages 22.8 points a game. He is joined by senior guard Alex Abreu, who pours in 16.8 points a game and has dished out 113 assists on the season. The Wolves average 86.7 points a game and allow 81.6 and are strong defensively as they force opponents into nearly 17 turnovers a game.
