VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State looks to snap its seven-game losing streak as the Blazers welcome Gulf South Conference co-leader West Alabama to The Complex Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m.
The Blazers enter Thursday's game with a record of 9-16 on the season, including a 4-15 mark in GSC action. Meanwhile, the Tigers are 18-9 overall and are tied with Alabama-Huntsville for the best record in the conference at 13-6.
Valdosta State is averaging 76.6 points per game and is shooting 42.8 percent from the floor. The Blazers have been improved offensively as of late as they are averaging 83.5 points per game in their last two outings. However, VSU has allowed 91.0 points a game in that span and now give up 80.3 points per outing on the season.
James Spencer leads Valdosta State at 14.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He and
Colin Cook, who averages 10.1 points and 6.3 boards a game, are the only two Blazers to start all 25 games this season. Meanwhile,
Blake Justice adds 12.0 points a game and has hit a team-high 49 three-pointers.
West Alabama has won 11 of its 14 games since the start of January after starting the year at 6-6. The Tigers average 75.8 points per game, but hold opponents to just 69.1 points an outing. UWA is a strong shooting team as it makes 48.5 percent of its chances, including 38.9 percent from beyond the three-point line and 74.8 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the Tigers force foes into 14.1 turnovers a game and block a league-best 4.3 shots a contest.
