MOBILE, Ala. – The Valdosta State Soccer team finished in a draw for the second straight match after Sunday's Gulf South Conference showdown against Spring Hill ended 2-2 in double overtime at Library Field.
The conclusion resulted in a 3-7-2 overall record for Valdosta State and moved the Blazers to 2-4-1 in GSC play. For the Badgers, the stalemate pushed Spring Hill's record to 1-7-3 overall, 1-6-1 in league action.
The Blazers put early pressure on Badger goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio, outshooting Spring Hill 10-2 throughout the entirety of the first half. In the 42
nd minute, sophomore
Ashley Miller broke through to give Valdosta State a 1-0 advantage with her first career goal. The score came from eight yards out after a well-placed entry pass off the foot of senior
Shelby Jennings.
Valdosta State's lead was fairly short-lived, due to an early second period score by Lillian DeSousa, but the Blazers capitalized on a corner opportunity that resulted in a goal for
Madison Cutts in the 71
st minute, which pushed VSU in front 2-1.
Not to be outdone, Spring Hill saved the match with a successful finish by Caroline Torrens at the 79:49 mark. The game-tying shot represented one of 13 second half shots for the Badgers and proved to be the final goal of the match.
"We felt that we should have won with us being up twice in the game," said Head Coach Becks Nolin following the match. "We are disappointed with the result as we really needed the three points, but the response was positive each time we conceded. We'll take the point, but we now know that we have a lot to do with the remaining games."
Next up for Valdosta State, it's the second of four straight road contests, as the Blazers travel to Union for a GSC matchup against the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, October 17
