Next Up For Blazer Volleyball: Union and Christian Brothers

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State volleyball's run continues this weekend in Valdosta, Ga., as the Blazers host Union and Christian Brothers for back-to-back Gulf South Conference matchups on Friday and Saturday night at The Complex.

Head Coach Mike Swan's crew, now 10-0 overall and 5-0 in GSC play, is currently experiencing the program's best start since 1999, when the Blazers won 16 consecutive matches to start the season. The Blazers look to extend their run at home this weekend before hitting the road again on Tuesday to face nationally ranked West Florida.

Aside from quietly consistent effort of reigning GSC Player of the Year Jessica Codato at the setter position (, junior Susanna Peonia is making waves in her first season with Valdosta State. The middle blocker's balanced effort for the flame red and black has lifted Peonia to  league-leading stats in both the hitting percentage (.376) and blocks per set (1.25).

In addition, Natalia Campos' defensive performance of late has pushed the Lutz, Fla. native into third place on the GSC's digs per set leaderboard. Her average of 5.00 digs per set earned a healthy boost over the course of the last four games, when the junior picked up 28 or more digs in three of those four matches. Against Shorter on Sept. 25, Campos posted 34 digs, which marked a career high.

Friday night's matchup against fourth-place Union (4-7, 3-2 GSC) is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start, and Saturday night's showdown against the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers (5-7, 2-4 GSC), will begin at 7:00 p.m.
