VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball teamed opened up the final weekend of the regular season with another home win after a convincing 3-0 triumph over Mississippi College on Friday evening at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga..
The win boosted the Blazers' GSC record to 15-4 and improved Head Coach
Mike Swan's team to 20-7 on the season. The win pushed Valdosta State one step closer to a third place position heading into the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Meanwhile, the Lady Choctaws were left searching for their first GSC victory of the year, as the team fell to 5-24 overall and an 0-19 stint against league opponents.
The red and black picked up the victory despite a poor .188 hitting performance.
Kelsey Hedman and
Destiny Berry both swung for .364 on the night to salvage the effort, while
Jessica Codato added 26 assists. Hedman also helped pick up the club on defense with five blocks, one of which was a solo denial.
The Blazers will close out the regular season tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at The Complex with a contest against West Alabama. Following tomorrow's contest, Valdosta State will turn its attention to postseason play, which is expected to begin with a quarterfinal match on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.. More information about the game will be available following the conclusion of play throughout the conference tomorrow.
Prior to the Saturday's regular season finale against the Tigers, the Valdosta State volleyball team will recognize
Ashley Lala,
Destiny Berry,
Jenna Kirkwood, and
