VALDOSTA, Ga. - The final two games of the regular season will take place in Titletown, USA this weekend, as the Blazers welcome Mississippi College to The Complex for a 6:00 p.m. on Friday night, followed by a 2:00 p.m. Saturday matchup against West Alabama, where the Valdosta State volleyball program will honor the four members of the 2014 senior class.
Since falling on the road to the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers on October 25, Coach
Mike Swan and his club have rebounded in a big way with three straight GSC victories, the most recent of which came on Tuesday night when the Blazers traveled to Carrollton, Ga. to roll past the Wolves of West Georgia in a 3-0 triumph.
News in recent days has been quite favorable for the Blazers, as both
Destiny Berry and
Lea Jaklen received GSC student-athlete of the week honors on Tuesday.
Kelsey Hedman added an honor of her own on Thursday after she was
named to the 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District First Team and earned an automatic nomination to the Academic All-American ballot.
Mississippi College will come to Valdosta on Friday seeking their first conference win of the season, while West Alabama comes to Valdosta in the midst of a four-game losing streak. Valdosta State will go for the season sweep this weekend of both teams, as the Blazers defeated MC 3-1 back at the beginning of October the day before taking a 3-2 victory in five over the Tigers.
Valdosta State Athletics and the VSU volleyball program encourage Blazer Nation to mark their calendars for next Tuesday, November 11, for a potential GSC playoff match at The Complex. The Blazers enter the weekend aiming to seal up their third place position in the Gulf South Conference standings. If successful, the team will earn an opportunity to host the opening round of the GSC Tournament at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
