VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team secured a spot in the 2014 Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21) win over North Alabama at The Complex in Valdosta on Friday night.
The victory improved the to a perfect 10-0 at home and pushed the Blazers to 17-7 overall and 12-4 in GSC play, while the Lions fell to 17-10, 13-5 in league play.
The Blazers outhit the Lions .234 to .064 on the night and racked up 20 blocks after another impressive blocking effort by middle blocker
Destiny Berry, who tallied seven total blocks on the night (three solo).
Lea Jaklen led the way on the attack for the Blazers with 13 kills and a .355 hitting percentage. The freshman added a solo block, an assist, and ten digs to help Valdosta State score the victory.
Valdosta State returns to action on Sunday afternoon in Valdosta to host the visiting Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville. The GSC matchup is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start with live stats and video available at www.vstateblazers.com.
