Geoffrey Bramblett joins the Valdosta State baseball staff in the fall of 2024 as an assistant coach under head coach Jan Weisberg.
Bramblett joins the Blazers after spending one season at Birmingham-Southern College as a pitching coach, where he helped will the Panthers to a College World Series appearance. The pitching staff held an ERA of 4.42, which was second best in SAA.
Prior to BSC, Bramblett had a 6-year stint in professional baseball. He was selected in the 37th round out of Hoover High School, in the 2013 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves but elected to play collegiately for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
While at Alabama, the Hoover native went a combined 18-9 with a 3.40 ERA, including a 5-4 record with a 2.99 ERA in his junior season (2016) that earned him a spot on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the top college baseball player in the country. He was one of only 60 players named to the list.
Bramblett then started his professional career in the Kansas City Royals organization, when he was drafted in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama. He pitched 2016 and 2017 in the Royalsâ system and posted a 4.56 ERA over 130 1/3 professional innings (33 games, 16 starts) before topping out with the Class-A Lexington (Ky.) Legends of the South Atlantic League.
His 2016 season with the Rookie-level Burlington (Tenn.) Royals stands out: 6-1, 2.17 ERA (11 games, 10 starts) â 43 strikeouts against nine walks over 49 2/3 innings.
Bramblett then went on to play for the Gateway Grizzlies in Independent ball in the Frontier League where he excelled. In 2019, Bramblett maintained a 0.50 ERA across 44 relief appearances and 53.2 innings. He averaged 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings and only walked seven batters all season. The Frontier league awarded him âReliever of the Yearâ honors along with the Arizona Diamondbacks purchasing his contract. Sadly, due to the Covid pandemic, he was not able to play in 2020.
Bramblett returned to Gateway in 2021 and picked up where he left off. He went 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA over 63 innings pitched. Bramblett notched 57 strikeouts to 21 walks, along with 8 saves.
Bramblett graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelorâs degree in human performance Exercise Science in 2019.
