Valdosta State Returns Home for GSC Play

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State Blazers return home for a GSC matchup against West Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 19. 

The Blazers are coming off a strong 4-0 victory over Mississippi Christian on Wednesday. 

VSU are seeing fantastic play from several players, including senior Sarah Hudson, who is in the top five in the GSC in points (10), goals (4), and shots on goal (9). Sophomore defender Kyndal Smith is also having an impressive season. She is currently top 10 in the GSC in points (6), game-winning goals (1), and goals (3). 

Anna Dandeneau, Jenni McIntosh, Kayleigh Kearns and Kaitlyn Scherer have also been key players for the Blazers as well. Scherer leads the team in assists with three, while Kearns is tied for second on the team with two. Dandeneau has a pair of goals on the season, and McIntosh has only one goal. 

Adriennne Cardona-Colon has been stellar between the pipes, racking up 25 saves, and allowing eight goals on the season with a record of 3-1-1. 

Scouting the Tigers 

West Alabama comes into Saturday's match with a record of 1-4, falling to No.10 Lee 6-0 on Wednesday. 

The Tiger attack is led by a pair of sophomores in Kya Jacobs and Mikaela Carpino, who are both one and two on the team in shots and shots on target. Juniors Allie Kimbrell and Campbell Wysong both have the lone goals scored for West Alabama with only one each. 

Yumari Hernandez is the netminder for the Tigers. The sophomore has faced 83 shots and has 29 saves and has allowed 12 goals in the season. 

Their lone win came in a 1-0 victory against Kansas Wesleyan in their season opener on August 28th. 

Kickoff is slated for 2:00pm at the VSU Soccer Complex.
