SOC 9/1/26 Preview

Soccer Set to Start the Season Against Middle Georgia

9/1/2026 11:13:00 AM

Valdosta, GA- After a game cancellation this past weekend, the Blazers will start their season officially tomorrow against the Knights of Middle Georgia at 6 PM.

The home game constitutes the start of a new phase for VSU after the team's 6-8-4 record in 2025. The Blazers had a strong finish to last season, winning four of their last six games and ending the regular season on a run of three consecutive wins.

The game on Wednesday also sees the Blazers facing up again against a team they know well. VSU and Middle Georgia State played each other in last year's opening match, the game ending in a 1-1 draw in Cochran on Sept. 4.

The Blazers ended the 2025 season with 26 goals from 221 shots, which included 108 shots on goal. VSU took an average of 12.3 shots per match and received 89 corner kicks during the season.

For the 2026 campaign, which will see a new group of Blazers playing in the match, VSU will aim to settle down at the start and discover new sources of offensive output. The previous season's team scored 13 goals in both halves throughout the campaign, displaying a well-balanced attack from beginning to end.

Wednesday's game will see Middle Georgia State, who have already played two times this season, begin with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Eckerd before suffering a 1-0 loss to Saint Leo on August 29.

In their first two games the Knights have not scored any points, while they have been outshot 48-8 by the other sides.

For VSU the emphasis is still on the beginning of the new season.

The home game on Wednesday is the first chance for the Blazers to play in front of their own crowd and to establish the tone for the 2026 season. Having started the previous season with a draw against Middle Georgia State, VSU now hopes to achieve a different result in the replay on its home ground.

The Blazers are ready for their first home game at the Soccer Complex.
