Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Valdosta State baseball team (14-27, 10-17 GSC) dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Lee University (28-13, 18-9 GSC) at Larry Carpenter Stadium.
Game One: Lee 11, Valdosta State 5
Lee ran ahead 8-0 through five innings on its way to an 11-5 victory.
The Flames broke through with one run in the second before a four-run third inning pushed the lead to 5-0. Valdosta State chipped away, scoring single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings before adding two more in the ninth.
Sophomore Parker Ladd hit a solo home run and added another hit, while juniors Luke Flading and Jason Mack drove in two runs each. Junior Charlie Banks added a triple and a stolen base.
On the mound, junior Jack Butler took the loss after allowing five runs across four innings.
Game Two: Lee 11, Valdosta State 6
Valdosta State jumped on the board first with a 1-0 lead, but Lee's offense would score six runs in the third inning and pull away for an 11-6 win in game two
The Blazers scored in the first inning and again in the fourth and fifth to stay within striking distance, but Lee answered each time. A four-run fifth inning added insurance for the Flames, extending the lead to 11-4.
Valdosta State continued to battle late, plating two runs in the seventh, but the comeback fell short.
Flading put together a standout performance at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Marcos Sevillano added three hits and drove in three runs, including his first home run of the season, while Banks added an RBI.
Graduate Trey Jackson took the loss after allowing six runs over 2.1 innings. Junior Hunter Ward and senior Keaton Fuller combined to cover the remainder of the game out of the bullpen.
Looking Forward
The Valdosta State baseball team will play two midweek games this week, first traveling to Americus, Ga. for a rematch with Georgia Southwestern (20-21).
The Blazers will then return home to Billy Grant Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, when they take on Georgia College (16-22).
