MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Valdosta St. (11-18, 8-10 GSC) dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Montevallo (13-17, 7-11 GSC), falling 1-0 in game one before a 5-0 loss in game two at Bob Riesener Stadium.
Game One - Montevallo 1, Valdosta St. 0
A pitcher's duel opened the day as Montevallo plated the lone run of the game in the fifth inning.
Senior Drake LaRoche turned in another strong start amongst his recent string of success, allowing just one run on eight hits across 7.0 innings while striking out five. However, the Blazers were unable to provide run support.
Valdosta St. totaled six hits in the contest, led by senior Jackson Webster with two. Juniors Matt Keller and Luke Flading also recorded hits, but the Blazers stranded multiple runners in the shutout loss.
Game Two -Â Montevallo 5, Valdosta St. 0
Montevallo carried momentum into game two, using a three-run third inning to take control before adding two more in the fifth.
The Falcons were powered by home runs from Jack Fitzgerald and Evan Radford.
Valdosta St. was limited to just one hit in the contest, coming from senior Jackson Webster, and was unable to generate offense throughout the day.
Junior Jack Butler took the loss after allowing five runs over 5.0 innings, while junior Ty Floyd added a scoreless inning in relief.
