VALDOSTA, Ga. – Coming off two strong wins versus Delta State on Monday, the Valdosta State men's and women's tennis teams return home to host Columbus State on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex and then the teams travel to Georgia College for a 2 p.m. start on Friday, Mar. 13.
The men's team enters with a 2-3 record overall and a 1-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play following a 5-2 win over Delta State on Monday. Columbus State enters No. 17 in the nation with a 4-0 record after a 7-0 win over Anderson last Friday. CSU has a 6-1 win over Auburn Montgomery and a 5-2 win over then-No. 9 Embry-Riddle earlier in the season.
The Cougars have won six of the last 11 meetings in the series, but the Blazers have won the last two, including a 5-2 win in Columbus, Ga., last season and a 7-0 win in 2024 in Valdosta. Prior to that, CSU had won three-straight. In last year's matchup, the Blazers won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches were in straight-sets. Current Blazers
Jerome Iaconi and
Julien Doitteau each played last season with Doitteau winning in three-sets at No. 5 and Iaconi losing at No. 3.
Doitteau is No. 27 nationally in singles in the latest ITA rankings as he is 5-2 in singles this year and 1-4 in doubles. Doitteau is 3-1 in singles this spring. He is the only Blazer ranked this week.
Philipp Bosse is 7-3 this season in singles and 4-1 in the spring. VSU has won just one doubles match this spring as the team is 1-11 in doubles with
Jan Thissen and
Yohann Meunier winning in the season-opener 6-2 against Middle Georgia.
Georgia College is 4-3 on the year and will play at Emmanuel (Ga.) on Wednesday before hosting the Blazers on Friday. Manoel Guimaraes leads the team with a 5-0 record at the No. 6 spot in singles. Chase Martin and David Munoz Botia each are 4-1 at the top two spots in the lineup. In doubles, Jackob Andergreesen and Braxton Wright are 4-1 in doubles this season to lead the team.
VSU has won 11 of the last 13 in the series and five-straight. VSU's last loss came on Feb. 6, 2019, in Milledgeville, Ga., on Feb. 6, 2019, in a 4-3 setback.
On the women's side, the Blazers enter with a 3-3 record overall and a 2-0 mark in the GSC following a thrilling 6-1 win over then-No. 20 Lee and a 5-2 win over Delta State over the last week. Columbus State enters at No. 34 nationally and is 3-1 on the year with wins over AUM, SCAD-Atlanta and No. 31 Anderson, while losing to then-No. 6 Embry-Riddle. Georgia College is 7-4 on the year.
The Blazers are led this season by
Charleigh Fay who is 4-2 this spring in singles, while
Ena Arnautovic is 3-1. In doubles, top duo of
Lena Beckx and
Milica Prokic are 4-1, while
Kitti Nemeth and
Carmelle Vial are 4-0. VSU is 18-16 in singles this season and 12-3 in doubles.
Columbus State is led by Isabell Ek who is 3-0 in singles this season at the No. 6 spot, while Nikoline Gullacksen is 3-1 at the top spot in singles. In doubles, the Cougars are 9-3 overall and two tandems are 3-1. CSU owns an 8-0 record against VSU since 2015 and have won the last three matches by the score of 5-2, including on Apr. 1, 2025, in Columbus, Ga. VSU is 5-7 in the last 12 meetings with Georgia College and dropped last season's meeting in a 4-3 loss in Valdosta. GC Has won five of seven in the series.
The Bobcats are led by Rachel Black who is 7-2 in singles, while Lucy Kim is 6-3. iN doubles, Black and Victoria Conde Vendrell are 8-1, while Kim and Alisa Chiang are 7-1 and Laura Almagro and Natalie Kirks are 6-3. In all, GC is 32-20 this spring in singles and a staggering 21-5 in doubles.
