LAKELAND, Fla. — The Valdosta State baseball team (1-3) was defeated 10-0 by the #10 Florida Southern Moccasins (1-3) on the last game of their season-opening four game road trip to the Sunshine State.
Valdosta State was held to four hits on the night and left ten runners on base. Junior Charlie Banks, senior Luca Maberry, junior Jason Mack, and junior Isaiah Pou each recorded base hits for VSU.
Junior Ryan Strachan took the loss on the mound for the Blazers, allowing six runs in 2.1 innings of work. Strachan also made three plate appearances at DH, walking once. Valdosta State utilized multiple pitchers out of the bullpen to cover the remaining innings.
Florida Southern opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning before pulling away with a four-run third. The Moccasins added to their lead with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run, before tacking on another run later in the contest.
The Blazers will look to bounce back when they open their home schedule with a three-game series this weekend against Florida Tech (3-0). The Blazers play their home opener at Billy Grant Field this Thursday at 6 p.m.
