NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Valdosta State baseball team (3-9, 1-3 Gulf South Conference) fell 13-5 to Trevecca Nazarene (8-3, 4-0 GSC) Friday evening in the opening game of a three-game series at Jackson Field.
The Blazers found solid production on offense with ten hits, six walks, and five runs. Senior Ethan Hood provided a big moment in the fourth inning with a solo home run, his first of the season. Junior Luke Flading hit two doubles and drove in two runs, while senior Brent Howard added two hits and an RBI. Junior Matt Keller also drove in a run, while junior Parker Ladd recorded a hit, walk, and run.
Junior Jackson Webster contributed a two-hit performance, while junior Charlie Banks added a hit. Valdosta State finished with seven players recording hits, but with nine of the team's ten hits coming in the first four innings.
Junior Garrett Moody made the start on the mound, striking out three batters across 4.0 innings of work. Sophomore Jacob Page was charged with the loss, while senior Vinny Del Negro provided 1.1 innings of relief work. Sophomore Ty Wilson closed out the game with a scoreless appearance.
Trevecca Nazarene totaled 17 hits and was led by Miles Nelson and Tyler Jenkins, who each hit home runs for the Trojans. Nelson added two doubles, while Caleb Webster doubled and drove in three runs. After starter Logan Harrell allowed five runs on nine hits across four innings, the Trojans received a strong effort from their bullpen as Grant Donkin, Justin Lee, and Joey Greenstreet combined for five shutout innings of relief work, allowing just one hit.
Valdosta State will return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader to close out its series at Trevecca Nazarene. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, with game two set to begin shortly after.
