HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Valdosta State cross country team is back in action Saturday, Oct. 24 as the Blazers head to Huntsville, Ala. for the UAH Chargers Invitational at John Hunt Park. The men's 8K gets underway at 9 a.m. ET and the women follow with the 6K at 9:50 a.m. ET.

The VSU men's team is still ranked No. 10 in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II South Region, so they remain in the top tier of the region.

Last Time Out:

The Blazers last ran at the FSU XC Invite in Tallahassee, Fla. on Oct. 9 at Apalachee Regional Park. The men's team finished 8th of 12 with 198 points and the women's team finished 13th. 

Nick Waddell was top of the VSU men at 30th in the 8K (26:42.8). Liam LeBrocq was 42nd (27:11.0), Caleb Tilford 49th (27:26.5), Graham Harrod 50th (27:27.5) and Parker Henderson 55th (27:36.1).

Emma Burnett was the best of the women with 58th in 6K (24:27.6). Ella Burnett was 68th (24:58.2) and Alanta Lofton 93rd (26:04.3). Ellie Cardozo ran a personal best of 31:33.3.

Looking Ahead:

The UAH Chargers Invitational will give the Blazers another chance to get their hands on a solid group of D1 and D2 teams. It's being held at John Hunt Cross Country Park which is a course that teams will be familiar with at the regional and national levels. The NCAA Division II South Regional Championship is also scheduled to be held at John Hunt Park later this season so it will be a good opportunity for the Blazers to get some experience on the course as both teams continue to prepare for the post season.

The Blazers are looking to build on their prior showings as they head into the Gulf South Conference Championships on Nov. 6.
