Blazers Travel to Take on Montevallo in GSC Action

MONTEVALLO, Ala.. – The Valdosta State Blazers travel on the road Saturday to face the University of Montevallo Falcons

The Blazers are currently tied with the Falcons and Spring Hill for third place in the GSC standings.

Valdosta State is coming off their first setback in conference play after falling to Union (Tenn.) last week in a 3-2 loss.

Sarah Hudson continues to prove why she is one of the top players in the conference this season as the senior scored her seventh goal of the season last week, giving her goals in all but one game this season.

The Harriman, N.Y. native is top five in the GSC in goals (7), shots (24), shots on goal (15), and points (16), she is currently on an incredible goal-scoring streak, finding the back of the net in the past six matches.

Kyndal Smith is also having a stellar year. The sophomore defender has been a steady presence in a backline that has held opponents to 1.50 goals a game. Smith is second on the team in points with seven on the year.

Natalie Ocampo has been a spark of young energy in the midfield, as the freshman is tied for the team lead in assists with three, with her third coming last week as she assisted on Bianca Martinez's goal.

In goal, the anchor of the Blazer defense is Adrienne Cardona-Colon. Colon comes into Saturday's contest top five in the GSC in saves (41)  and saves per game (5.13), allowing only 12 goals so far this season.

Scouting the Falcons

Montevallo enters the match with a record of 7-2-1, (3-1-1 GSC), with one of those wins coming against University of Tampa.

The Falcons are led by the trio of senior Lainey Farabaugh, sophomores Ayla Ertekin and Karsyn Ross. Ertekin leads the team in goals with seven and points with 16. Farabaugh is second on the team in points (14), goals (5), and assists (4). While Ross leads her team and the GSC in assists with six.

Between the pipes, a trio of goalkeepers have shared duties for Montevallo. Jolie Cazale has started six games, tallying 13 saves, three clean sheets and holds a record of 5-1-0. Ciara Duff earned the start in three games this season, posting six saves, allowing five goals and has a record of 1-1-1. Lastly, Frida Larsson started one game, playing all 90 minutes she had seven saves, allowing three goals and has a record of 1-0-0

The Blazers are 4-6-1 against the Falcons, with their last win coming in 2018 in a 2-1 victory. Last season, they dropped their only meeting against Montevallo 4-0.

Kickoff for the match was slated for 4 p.m. but now has been moved up to 11 a.m.
