BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced that the City of Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa Tennis Center (TTC) will be the site for the next three GSC Tennis Championships. The 2026 GSC Championships will be held April 23-25. The 2027 event is slated for April 22-24, while the 2028 tournaments are set for April 27-29.
Tuscaloosa will become the sixth Alabama city to host the GSC Tennis Championships. From 1982 to 2007, the men's and women's tournaments rotated among various campus sites, with stops in Florence, Jacksonville, Troy, and Huntsville. In 2008, the event transitioned to a neutral venue in Montgomery, which served as host for the next 17 consecutive seasons until last year.
"We're happy to bring the GSC Tennis Championships to Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center," said GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. "The facility is a top-tier venue, with a community that embraces the sport, making it an ideal setting to showcase the incredible talent from our conference. With our teams continuing to shine on the national stage, this partnership should create an unforgettable championship experience for the student-athletes and fans."
Tuscaloosa Tennis Center hosts a range of programs promoting youth and adult development, in addition to leagues and tournaments. In the past seven years, TTC has run over 40 tournaments including USTA, UTR, and ITA College Circuits, along with hosting local high school matches and competitions.
"The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center couldn't be more pleased and excited in having the opportunity to host the 2026, 2027 and 2028 Gulf South Conference Championships," said TTC Director of Tennis Mike Goldhammer. "The Gulf South is held in such a high regard not only in the southeast but across the country, and TTC is honored to partner with them in 2026 and beyond. We have been preparing to host prestigious events such as this for quite some time, and with the TTC expansion completion taking place later this fall, the timing couldn't be better. We look forward to hosting the GSC leadership, the talented teams and players, along with showcasing high level tennis for our members, patrons and fans in and around Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County and the surrounding area."
"Visit Tuscaloosa is proud to partner with the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center and the Gulf South Conference to bring this championship to our community," said Robins Bonner, Senior Sports Sales and Event Development Manager for Visit Tuscaloosa. "Our friends at TTC and PARA have played an instrumental role in attracting championship-caliber sporting events, and we are eager to welcome the talented student-athletes, coaches, and families to experience all that Tuscaloosa has to offer."
The GSC has a tradition of success on the hard court, earning recognition as one of the top NCAA Division II tennis conferences. Its men's programs particularly have thrived on the national stage, winning eight NCAA national championships, including back-to-back titles by Valdosta State in the last two seasons.
About the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center
Tuscaloosa Tennis Center is operated by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority. TTC opened its doors in 2014, comprised of 3 indoor hard courts, 4 outdoor hard courts and 6 outdoor clay courts. The tennis center was a long time vision of the City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Tennis Association and numerous tennis leaders in the City and County. In cooperation of City, County, State and Federal funding, Tuscaloosa Tennis Center was built as part of a Master Plan following the devastation from the tornado in April 2011. Over the past 4 years, the City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority, United States Tennis Association, Tuscaloosa Tennis Association and tennis advocates have been working tirelessly to build on the original Master Plan to grow and expand TTC's footprint. In November 2024, work began to add numerous features to the existing footprint. Fourteen additional outdoor hard courts and 6 outdoor clay courts, along with concession/bathrooms, maintenance building and beautification of the park and surrounding facility are in the works. The expected completion of the project is on or before the end of 2025. In total, TTC will be home to 33 tennis courts.
