COLUMBUS, Ga. – Playing its first match since Mar. 24, the No. 4-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team posted a 5-2 win on the road at No. 30 Columbus State Tuesday afternoon as it ran its winning streak to 27-straight matches dating back to last season. 
 
The Blazers improved to 11-0 this season and got things started with a huge upset at the top spot in doubles as senior Edgar Destouet and graduate student Arthur Bord downed No. 4-ranked duo of Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter, 6-4.  VSU clinched the all-important doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles as senior Boruch Skierkier and junior Jan Skerbatis defeated Benedek Szombathelyi and Yike Liu. 
 
Destouet, ranked No. 16 nationally, downed Samer Al Tori 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for a 2-0 lead.  CSU pulled within 2-1 as Sandrone won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3 over sophomore Jerome Iaconi.  The Cougars then tied the match with Liu winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 over senior Xaveam Van Wijk, but the battle tested Blazers used a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win by Skerbatis at No. 4 over Szombathelyi, while Skierkier, ranked No. 7 nationally, needed three sets for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at the top spot over Camilo Cano to clinch the match.  Freshman Julien Doitteau battled back for a win at No. 5 over Peter, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 for the 5-2 final. 
 
The Blazers return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend as they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face No. 23 Mississippi College on Friday at 12 p.m. ET and then at Auburn Montgomery on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
