MOBILE, Ala. – The Valdosta State men's and women's tennis teams concluded the fall season with the 2025 Gulf South Conference Fall Invitational this past weekend in Mobile, Ala.
 
The Blazers had two women qualify for the championship matches in singles in their respective flights as sophomore 
Ivana Castillo Hurtado lost in the final match of Flight 2, as did junior 
Charleigh Fay in Flight 3.   Fay and junior 
Ena Arnautovic reached the quarterfinals in doubles.  
 
On the men's side, VSU took three student-athletes as sophomore Phillipp Bosse reached the quarterfinals in singles, defeating West Florida's Mark Neyelov, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 16, before losing to eventual champion Filipe Krohn da Silva of Lee in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-5 of Flight 1.  
 
In Flight 3, freshman 
Emile Le Delporte also reached the quarterfinals as he defeated Lucas Rosvall of Auburn Montgomery as they split the first two sets 3-6, 6-2, before Le Delporte won the decisive set 11-9 in the super tiebreaker.  He then lost to Christian Bacher of Montevallo, 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round.  West Florida tandem of Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duran defeated freshman 
Jan Thissen and Le Delporte, 6-3, in Flight 1 round of 16 doubles.
 
For the women, Castillo Hurtado defeated Mercedes Garcia Cid of Auburn Montgomery (6-0, 6-4) in the round of 16, before dispatching Aliyah Dwyer of Lee in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 10-3 to advance to the semifinals.  She then downed West Alabama's Jenaila Prulla 6-3, 6-3, before losing to Mississippi College's Anna Hudson, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) of Flight 2.  
 
Fay made a strong run in Flight 3 as she defeated West Florida's Laila Kamil in the round of 16, needing three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, before knocking off Erika Freire of Montevallo also in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5.  In the semifinals, Fay downed Wambui Taylor of Mississippi College, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) and came up just short in the championship, falling to Mississippi College's Mariana Munoz, 6-4, 6-3.  
 
In doubles, Fay/Arnautovic won their round of 16 match in Flight 2 over West Florida and then fell short in the quarterfinals falling to an AUM tandem, 6-2.  
 
The Blazer tennis teams now turn their sights to dual match play beginning in February.
