VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State junior men's golfer
William Carestam was named the Gulf South Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
This is the first weekly honor of the season for Carestam and the first for the Blazers. Carestam, a native of Gothemburg, Sweden, carded a 5-under 211 at the NCAA National Preview earlier this week at the par 72, 7,421-yard Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev. Carestam finished tied for 20
th as he helped lead VSU to a 12
th-place finish as a team. He carded rounds of 70, 72 and 69.
Carestam transferred to VSU this year from Charleston (W.Va.) and this marked his third tournament of his VSU career as he has a 73.4 stroke average with eight rounds in the 70s and one in the 60s for the season. His best finish of the season so far came in the season-opening tournament where he tied for 16
th at The Griffin Invitational (Sept. 15-16) at the Country Club of Petersburg in Petersburg, Va.
The Blazers and Carestam are currently preparing for the Copperhead Championship, set for Oct. 13-14 in Palm Harbor, Fla., at Innisbrook-Copperhead and hosted by West Florida.
