Blazer Men’s Golf Finishes 12th at NCAA Division II National Preview Tuesday

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 293 to finish 12th at the NCAA Division II National Preview Tuesday on the par 72, 7,421-yard Boulder Creek Golf Course.  The Blazers finished the 54-hole tournament with an 865 score on rounds of 292, 280 and 293. 
 
Lynn won the 17-team tournament with a final round 277 to finish at a staggering 28-under 837.  Midwestern State (Texas) finished second at 26-under for an 839 score, while Missouri S&T was third at 23-under 842.  Cal State East Bay finished fourth at 22-under at 843, while there was a three-way tie between host Missouri-St. Louis, Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State at 20-under 845.  Chico State entered the final round as the clubhouse leader.  
 
Georgia Southwestern finished eighth at 17-under (848), followed by Flagler (853) and Colorado State-Pueblo rounded out the top ten at 854.  Drury shot an even par 865 to edge the Blazers by one stroke for 11th
 
Midwestern State's Seth Bearden finished 13-under with a 203 score (68,67,68), while Cal State San Bernardino's Aaron Parayno and Missouri S&T's Isaac Chern Yi To tied for second at 11-under 205.  There also was a tie for fourth and sixth.  In all, 38 golfers finished under par and an additional nine finished even par.  
 
VSU was led by junior William Carestam who carded a 5-under 211 to finish tied for 20th.  Carestam carded rounds of 70, 72 and 69.  Junior Alexander Nilehn continued his strong start to the season as he finished 28th with a 2-under 214 on rounds of 71, 70 and 73.  Senior Elad Sebbag tied for 59th with a 220 score after carding rounds of 75, 69 and 76.  Senior Joshua Burki tied for 70th with a 223 score on rounds of 79, 69 and 75, while junior Adam Waller finished tied for 92nd at 242 on rounds of 76, 83 and 83.  
 
The Blazers finished +6 in par 3 scoring at a 3.10 average to tie for third among the field as every team was over par on par 3 and par 4 scoring, but the field dominated the par 5's as GSW, Midwestern State and Colorado State-Pueblo were 41-under on the longest holes to tie for the tops for the field.  VSU was 14th on par 5 scoring at 22-under.  The Blazers finished with four eagles, 57 birdies and 138 pars.  Carestam finished tied for second on par 3 scoring at -2, while he paced the team with two eagles.  Nilehn had a team-high 16 birdies.
 
VSU returns home to prepare for the Copperhead Championship Oct. 13-14 in Palm Harbor, Fla., at Innisbrook-Copperhead.
