SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Valdosta State Blazer baseball team fell on the road to no. 10 Saint Leo on Tuesday evening down in Florida, 6-2. The Blazers tallied nine hits as senior
David Crawford went 3-4 with a double and a run scored. For the Lions, they tallied 11 hits and scored six runs as junior Callan Moss reached base five times and drove in three.
Things started off fast for Saint Leo, as their first three batters reached base and forced head coach
Greg Guilliams to go to the bullpen early, as freshman
Jacob King came in for relief. The Lions' Callan Moss doubled into the left field corner to clear the bases and make it 3-0 Saint Leo. The Lions were able to bring home Moss on a throwing error as Saint Leo led 4-0 after one.
The Blazers were able to get on the board in the top of the third as a single to right from senior
David Crawford brought home graduate student
Owen Lawn to make it 4-1.
The bullpen for Valdosta State was exceptional, as they allowed two runs on ten hits and struck out five batters in eight innings of work.
A two-out rally from the Blazers plated them another run in the top of the fifth, as Crawford doubled with two outs to put a runner in scoring position for junior
Pedro Moreno, who singled to right center to make it 4-2 in favor of the Lions.
Saint Leo stole that run right back, as they also scored a run with two outs, as a McDonald doubled to right center field to get the lead back to three at 5-2.
Saint Leo looked to gain more insurance in the bottom of the seventh, as a leadoff double and a walk had runners on first and second with no one out for the Lions. Junior
Keaton Fuller struck one out before allowing single to right center, bringing one home to grow the lead to 6-2.
The Blazers were able to get a runner on in the top of the ninth but weren't able to muster together anything, as they fell 6-2.
