VALDOSTA, Ga. – Four goals by four different players highlighted Senior Day as the Valdosta State women's soccer team won 4-0 over visiting Christian Brothers Sunday afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex.
The Blazers (7-6-1, 4-4-1 GSC) outshot the Buccaneers 16-6 and 9-4 in shots on goal, while they held a 6-3 lead in corner kicks and had four saves – all in the second half. Junior
Claire Timberlake and senior
Emma Pruett combined in goal for the shutout. CBU (0-14, 0-10 GSC) had six shots and four on goal all in the second half, while the Bucs had five saves between two goalkeepers.
Prior to the match, VSU honored eight seniors as the class included;
Ansley Decenzo,
Logan Humbert,
Ana Moleka,
Molly Muenchen,
Jocelyn Oballe,
Emma Pruett,
Hunter Wallace and
Molly Wooldridge. VSU would like to wish each of these eight seniors best of luck in their future endeavors.
VSU had two great looks early with both shots going wide, then Wallace had a shot in front of the net that was saved by a CBU defender. The Blazers found the break through goal in the 18
th minute as Woodridge was on the far flank and centered to junior
Victoria Bahr who scored in front of the net for her second goal in as many games.
Later in the half, freshman
Maria Rojas scored her fourth goal of the season with an assist from senior
Ansley Decenzo and sophomore
Kaitlyn Scherer at the 34:31 mark. Just 1:39 later, sophomore
Ella Scerbo scored off a free kick from junior
Katherine Kimmel for a 3-0 lead at the 36:10 mark. For the half, VSU had ten shots with six on frame, while CBU didn't register a shot.
In the second half, Muenchen scored at the 52:29 mark on a great run by Moleka down the middle of the field and she dished to Muenchen for her third score of the season and 4-0 lead. All eight seniors played in the match as Pruett played the second half in goal registering the four saves. Muenchen had two shots and one on goal with a goal, while Bahr's goal on her only shot attempt proved to be the game winner. She also had the game winner on Friday in a 3-2 victory with the winner coming in the 88
th minute against Union.
The Blazers now return to the road at Mississippi College and Delta State next Friday and Sunday, respectively, before returning home to close the regular season on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. versus Lee University in a makeup match from Hurricane Helene.
