Soccer Hosts Union and Christian Brothers for Senior Weekend

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team returns home to host Union University and Christian Brothers this week for Senior Weekend.  The matches are Friday at 7 p.m. versus Union for the Wear Pink Match and Sunday at 1 p.m., versus CBU for Senior Day.
 
The Blazers enter with a 5-6-1 record overall and a 2-4-1 record in Gulf South Conference play as the team went 1-1 this past week with a thrilling 4-2, come-from-behind victory over Trevecca Nazarene and a 2-1 loss at Auburn Montgomery.  Union enters with a 6-3-2 record overall and a 5-1-2 record in league play, while Christian Brothers is 0-12 overall and 0-8 in GSC play. 
 
Against Trevecca Nazarene, the Blazers, who were playing in their first true "home" game since Sept. 18, saw three goals in the first 5:30 of game time with two from TNU and one from Blazer junior Hunter Wallace.  The Blazers trailed 2-1 at halftime, but scored three goals, including another from Wallace, along with one from senior Molly Wooldridge and one from freshman Maria Rojas for the 4-2 win.  
 
In the match at Auburn Montgomery, the Warhawks scored a goal at the 39:45 mark into the match for a 1-0 lead at intermission.  AUM added the insurance goal in the 52nd minute, while Wooldridge tallied her second goal of the week pulling the Blazers within 2-1 at the 68:57 mark.  VSU led 9-6 in shots for the match, but was unable to get the equalizer over the final 21:03.  
 
Blazer head coach Stephen Andrew is 203-107-21 all-time in 18 seasons of coaching while he is 63-52-12 at VSU in his eighth season.  The Blazers are 7-2-2 all-time against Union and have won five of the last six matches in the series.  Last season, VSU won 2-0 in Valdosta on Oct. 1 with two goals in the first half exactly 1:02 minutes apart at the 42:19 mark and at 43:21.  VSU held a 20-3 lead in shots and a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Versus CBU, the Blazers are 8-4-1 overall, including a 2-1 win in Valdosta on Sept. 29, 2023.  CBU took the early lead on a penalty kick goal, but senior Ana Moleka scored the equalizer in the 67th minute and Wallace scored the winner just over 12 minutes later.  VSU has won three of the last five in the series.  
 
Prior to Sunday's contest, the Blazers will honor eight seniors for the 2024 season including; Ansley Decenzo, Logan Humbert, Ana Moleka, Molly Muenchen, Jocelyn Oballe, Emma Pruett, Hunter Wallace and Molly Wooldridge.  VSU Athletics wishes the best of luck to these eight student-athletes in their future endeavors.   
 
This season, the Blazers have scored 20 goals on 122 shots (.164) with 71 on target (.582).  The Blazers have 17 assists with 57 corner kicks and are 3 of 4 in penalty kicks.  Individually, junior Katherine Kimmel leads the team with nine points on two goals and a team-high five assists.  Wooldridge is second in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist.  Wooldridge leads the team with 18 shots (.167) and eight on target (.444) with one game winner.  Rojas and Wallace each have three goals on the year and both have a team-high 11 shots on target.  Rojas is 1 of 1 in penalty kicks for the season, while Wallace has one game winner.  In goal, Pruett is 3-3 on the year with a 1.54 goals against average in 527:20 minutes.  She has 18 saves and has 2.5 shutouts while facing 49 shots.  Junior Claire Timberlake is 2-3-1 this season with ten goals against and 29 saves.  She has two shutouts in 61 shots faced.  Sophomore Tori Vliet has played in one match for 7:06 minutes with one save and combined on a shutout.  
 
Union has scored 19 goals for the season with 16 assists and 42 corner kicks. The Bulldogs have 129 shots (.147) with 65 on target (.504).  Leading the way for the Bulldogs this season is Lucia Revuelto who has four goals and seven assists for 15 points.  She has a team-high 20 shots with 11 on target.  Rebekah Jackson has four goals and two assists for ten points.  She has 16 shots and 11 on frame.  In goal, Kirsten LaVallee is 6-3-2 on the year with 17 goals against for a 1.55 GAA in 986:40 minutes.  She has three shutouts and faced 130 shots.  The Bulldogs had a four-match winning streak snapped with a 3-0 loss to West Florida on Oct. 20.  Prior to the loss, Union had gone 5-0-2 in its last seven matches after starting the season 1-2. 
 
The Buccaneers have scored four goals with 102 shots and 41 on frame this season, along with two assists and 31 corner kicks.  Individually, four different players have one goal each as Ana Dutra leads the team with four points on one goal and two assists.  She has 30 shots with 11 on frame to lead the team.  In goal, CBU has split time between Kaylee Allen and Gemma Crowe. Allen has played 585 minutes with 24 goals allowed and 40 saves, while Crowe has allowed 17 goals in 495 minutes with 34 saves and faced 90 shots. 
 
Following the matches this weekend, the Blazers travel to Mississippi College and Delta State next week, before returning home to close the regular season in a makeup match from Hurricane Helen against Lee on Nov. 6, at 1 p.m.
