MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Auburn Montgomery Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Blazers fell to 5-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while AUM improved to 3-7-1 overall and 1-6 in league play.
VSU held a 9-6 lead in shots and both teams had four shots on frame for the match. AUM's Reia Henry scored at the 39:45 mark into the first half as the Warhawks held the 1-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, AUM went up 2-0 on a goal by Laia Gonzalez for her sixth score of the season at the 51:43 mark. VSU would rally, however, as senior
Molly Wooldridge scored her third goal of the season with an assist from senior
Victoria Bahr at the 68:57 mark.
From there, senior
Ansley Decenzo had a good look at the 82:12 mark, but AUM goalkeeper Karla Guzman-Ortiz was up to the task and seconds later Wooldridge had a shot that went left of the target. In the closing minutes, freshman
Lydia Lewis had an attempt at the equalizer, but the shot sailed wide.
Wooldridge had two shots and the lone goal for the Blazers. Junior goalkeeper Ciaire Timberlake had two saves and two goals allowed, while Guzman-Ortiz finished with three saves and one goal allowed.
VSU returns home to host Union on Friday at 7 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex and then on Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Christian Brothers for Senior Day.
