VALDOSTA, Ga. – Fresh of its first series victory over Delta State since 2017, the No. 24 Valdosta State baseball team continues its eight-game road trip at Georgia Southwestern for a 6 p.m. first pitch Tuesday evening.

The Blazers won two of three games at Delta State, winning 7-2 in the opener to snap a 12-game losing skid to the Statesmen. DSU won the second game 6-2 to open a Saturday doubleheader, while VSU won the nightcap 6-0 behind a complete game shutout from senior
Zach Henderson as he allowed just three hits for the win. VSU also won last week 7-2 at Saint Leo and now is 3-1 on the road trip as the Blazers will conclude the trip next weekend with a three-game series at Shorter. The Blazers are scheduled to return home to host Georgia College on Mar. 7 at 5 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.
GSW enters with a 7-3 record overall after going 1-2 this past week at Augusta. VSU leads the all-time series with GSW 18-14 and have won the last three in the series, including a 9-6 victory in Americus on Mar. 22, 2022 GSW is 8-7 at home against the Blazers and have won six of the last ten in the series. The teams are scheduled to play again in Valdosta Apr. 11.
The Hurricanes were picked tied for fourth in the preseason Peach Belt Conference Baseball Coaches Poll as both GSW and North Georgia garnered 65 points. Columbus State was picked as the league-favorite, while Young Harris was second and Georgia College was picked third. GSW catcher Gregory Wozniak, who slugged .505 last season, earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team. The 'Canes ae hitting .276 for the season with 97 hits, 19 doubles, 13 home runs, 88 RBI and 110 runs scored. The team has walked 73 times and is 14 of 18 in stolen bases, while slugging .442 and reaching base at a .440 clip. The staff has pitched 83.2 innings, allowing 71 hits, 37 runs – 31 earned, walked 29 and fanned 99 as the team has a 3.33 ERA for the season.
This season, Jake Blinstrub and Miles Hartsfield the team with a .378 average each. Blindstrub has 14 hits in 37 at bats with 16 runs scored, three doubles and three RBI. Hartfield has 14 hits with 14 runs scored, three doubles, one home run and nine RBI. On the bump, the Hurricanes boast a 3.33 ERA and have held teams to a .225 average for the season. The opposition has 71 hits, 37 runs scored nine doubles, three home runs and 34 RBI.
VSU enters the week with a .270 average and has scored 87 runs on 120 hits with 22 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 74 RBI. The team is slugging .372 and reaching base at a .389 clip, while it is 19 of 28 in stolen bases. Graduate student

Jakob Sessa is second in average at a .372 clip on 16 of 43 from the plate with six runs scored, one double, one triple and two RBI.
