Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blazer Soccer Falls 5-1 to No. 13 Lee

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team fell 5-1 to visiting No. 13 Lee Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play.  VSU dropped to 3-4-1 overall and 2-3 in GSC play, while Lee improved to 6-0-4 and 4-0-2 in GSC play.

VSU finished with five shots and two on frame as sophomore Kaley Mincy scored the lone goal for the Blazers to tie the match at 1-1 on her first goal of the season at the 19:03 mark in the first half.  Mincy took a corner kick and bent it nicely to the upper corner, past a diving Lee goalkeeper, for the early equalizer.  Mincy finished with two shots on goal and the score for VSU.

Just 5:08 into the contest, Lee's Ellie Crisler scored on a rebound as Alexis Hale hit the cross bar and it caromed to Crisler for the score and her 12th goal of the season.  Throughout the first half, VSU had more of the attacking pressure and seemed to fluster Lee, but a hard tackle in the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Lady Flames in the 41st minute.  Kate Dirkse took the attempt and barely hit it past VSU sophomore goalkeeper Emma Pruett for a 2-1 lead.

At half, both teams had five shots and both teams had one save.  VSU had three corner kicks and capitalized on the one from Mincy.

The flow of the game continued through much of the first part of the second half, until Crisler scored her second goal in the 68th minute and then added an assist on a score from Ashley Eulo in the 78th minute and Tatum Miller added a goal in the 83rd minute for the 5-1 margin.

For the match, VSU finished with five shots and two on frame, while Lee had 12 shots in the second half for 17 for the match and eight on target.  VSU finished with six corner kicks for the match and Lee had four set pieces in the second half.  Crisler finished with three shots, two on goal, two goals and one assist.

The Blazers continue at home next weekend as they are scheduled to host Mississippi College, Friday evening at 7 p.m., and then close the four-match home stand next Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Delta State.
