PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7 Valdosta State men's tennis team blanked Mississippi College, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while Mississippi College fell to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in GSC action.
The Blazers started off quickly in doubles taking the team point. Sophomores
Christian Wedel and
Cameron Henricy Trigolos won 6-0 at No. 3, while sophomores
Rodrigo Carvalho and
Luca Mack, ranked No. 1 in the latest ITA rankings, won 6-3 at No. 1. MC's Brady McDaniel and Hsiang Yi Wang won 6-2 over junior
Christian Felline and sophomore
Edward Etty at No. 2.
VSU won all six singles matches in straight-sets. Carvalho, ranked No. 53 nationally, won 6-3, 6-0 over Joe Jarvis at No. 2, for a 2-0 lead, while Mack, ranked No. 10 nationally, won at No. 1 over McDaniel, 6-3, 6-1, for a 3-0 lead. Felline clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Carlos Trujillo. Wedel then won his ninth-straight match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. Graduate student
Swann Flohr won at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0 and Henricy Trigolos won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.
