VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 6-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team continues on the road this week in key match at No. 1 Columbus State Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Blazers, who have won five-straight matches, enter with an 11-4 record overall and are second in the Gulf South Conference with a 7-1 mark. During the five-match streak, VSU has dropped just two singles matches. Columbus State enters with a 13-1 record overall and a 3-0 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. CSU's lone loss was a 4-3 setback against then-No.5 Barry in Indianapolis, Ind. VSU downed Barry 4-3 earlier this season in Orlando, Fla.
VSU won 7-0 last Friday at Montevallo in a dominant match from the start. VSU won the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Five of the six singles matches were victories in straight-sets. CSU enters off a 6-1 victory over No. 12 Lander on Saturday. The Cougars won the doubles point with three victories. Two of the singles matches went to three sets with both Lander and CSU winning one each. At No. 4 singles, Christian Garay of CSU won his match 6-0, 6-0, over Nicolas Chan, while Javier Cueto Ramos won his three-set match for CSU, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
For the Cougars, Alvaro Regalado leads the country in singles with 21-0 record this year, while he is 13-0 this spring and 2-0 in PBC play at the top spot in the lineup. Tommaso Schold is 25
th nationally in singles with a 10-2 record this year and is 11-1 this spring with a 2-0 record in league play. Cueto Ramos is 37
th nationally with an 8-3 record this spring at the No. 2 position, while he is 10-4 for the year. Garay is 75
th nationally and is 13-1 this spring with a 2-0 mark in league play, giving four Cougars in the top 75 nationally in singles.
In doubles, Cueto Ramos and Regalado are No. 4 nationally with a 9-2 record this year and 3-1 this spring. Pietro Martinetti and Schold are No. 9 nationally at 12-2 this year and 6-1 this spring, while going 1-0 in league play. Martinetti/Regalado are No. 15 nationally and 4-0 this spring.
The Blazers and the Cougars had an outstanding match the last time the two play on Mar. 31, 2021, in Valdosta. CSU came away with a heartbreaking 4-3 victory as the match came down to the final two singles matches. CSU held a 3-2 lead as Martinetti won 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 over

Christian Wedel won at No. 3 over Schold, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 for the final 4-3 score in favor of the Cougars. CSU won 6-1 in 2019 in Columbus, Ga., for wins in the last two matches. The Cougars have won four of five, with VSU's last win coming in a 5-4 decision in Valdosta on Mar. 2, 2018. CSU has won five of the last eight matches.

Rodrigo Carvalho lead the nation in doubles as they are 12-4 this year, while they are 8-4 this spring and 5-1 in GSC play. Freshman

Christian Felline also are 8-4 this spring and 4-2 in league play at No. 2 doubles, while Henricy Trigolos and Wedel are 6-1 this spring and 5-1 in league play at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Mack is No. 8 nationally with a 14-4 record overall, while he is 10-5 this spring and 6-2 in GSC play at the top spot in the lineup. Carvalho is No. 60 nationally with an 11-3 record this spring to go along with a 7-1 record in GSC play. Wedel is 13-1 in singles and has won 11-straight matches, while he is 8-0 in league play. Henricy Trigolos is 10-3 this spring and 7-0 in GSC play.
Following the match, VSU returns home for its regular season finale on Apr. 20 at 3 p.m. against Auburn Montgomery at the VSU Tennis Courts.
