VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's and women's tennis teams dropped matches to Keiser University Thursday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. Both teams lost 4-2.
On the men's side, the No. 2 Blazers took the early lead securing the doubles point with wins at the top two positions, including sophomores
Luca Mack and
Rodrigo Carvalho's victory at the top spot over Bart Nouws and Yassir Kilan, 6-4, while freshman
Lamar Bartley and junior Christian Fellini won at No. 2 over Geromino Barrios and Soufiane El Mesbahi, 6-2.
The Seahawks, ranked No. 2 in NAIA, saw No. 22 Charly Zick win at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over sophomore
Cameron Henricy Trigolos, 6-0, 6-3. Carvalho, ranked No. 29, won at No. 3 singles with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Barrios won at No. 2 over Bartley, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 and Keiser won at No. 6 as El Mesbahi won 6-3, 6-2 over junior Christian Fellini to clinch the match. VSU fell to 2-2 on the year, while Keiser improved to 10-2.
On the women's side, the Blazers (1-4) used wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to win the point as sophomore
Julia Saving and senior
Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir won 6-4, while freshmen
Magda Tuells Bonet and
Elisa Beau won 6-3 at No. 3 for the team point.
Keiser also is ranked No. 2 in NAIA on the women's side, saw No. 2 ranked Nicole Coopersmith post a 6-1, 6-1 over freshman
Natalie Kohoutkova for a 1-1 score at the top singles position. KU's No. 13-ranked Vanja Vidanovic won at No. 3 6-1, 6-1, over freshman
Elisa Beau for a 2-1 lead, but Tuells Bonet won at No. 2 for the Blazers, 7-5, 6-3, for a 2-2 score. Both freshmen
Adriana Barrio and
Andrea Barrio took their opponents to the distance at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, before both falling in the third set giving Keiser (6-1) the 4-2 victory.
VSU returns to action at Saint Leo at 3 p.m., on Mar. 1.
