MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 5-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team opened the 2022 spring season with a 6-1 victory at Georgia College, Tuesday afternoon.
Behind standout play in both doubles and singles, the Blazers swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches for the victory. Rodrigo Carvalho won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, while freshman

Christian Felline blanked Bobcat tandem of Sebastian Nunez and Lukas Zavrel, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot. Blazer graduate student

Edward Etty won at No. 3, 6-3 over Jorge Robinson and Karol Malirz.
No singles match went to three sets as Mack, ranked 12
th nationally, got things started at the top position with a victory over Gabriel Cizek in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3, for a 2-0 lead. VSU pushed the lead to 2-0 as Carvalho, ranked No. 29 nationally, won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, over Robinson.
The Bobcats pulled within 2-1 as Malirz won at No. 2 over Bartley, 7-6, 6-2, but Blazers sophomore
Christian Wedel continued his outstanding start to his Blazer career with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Masumi Komada at No. 4 for a 3-1 lead. Wedel went 13-2 in singles last season and a perfect 9-0 in Gulf South Conference play as a freshman. Sophomore
Cameron Henricy Trigolos won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0, over Aurelien Arlot to clinch the match, while Felline won at No. 5, 7-5, 6-4, over Enzo Sergi for the 6-1 victory.
The Blazers return to action on Feb. 11, to open the 2022 home slate versus No. 10 North Georgia at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Courts.
