Murray and Mack Named Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State volleyball sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Murray and men's tennis sophomore Luca Mack were named Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week, announced Thursday.  

Murray, a native of Dripping Springs, Texas, recorded 27 kills in the SSC/GSC Crossover over the past weekend. She had eight digs as well as a block solo in the match against Florida Tech on Oct. 15 while hitting .237 and added four total blocks over the weekend to bring her season total to 32. 

Mack, a native of Emmendingen, Germany, was the top seed in the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., and went all the way to the Championship match where he was upset by Columbus State's Santiago Perez in three sets. Previously in the tournament, Mack won 7-6, 6-1 over Azusa Pacific's Leyton Bohren in the round of 16, defeated Harding's Dani Ortiz 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and defeated Point Loma Nazarene's Alexander Leischner 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.  

Murray and the Blazer volleyball team return to conference play this week, playing host to Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. for Youth Volleyball Night inside the Complex and then will host Montevallo on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. for senior day.  

Mack and the Blazer tennis teams await the 2023 spring season as Mack heads into the spring campaign possibly looking at a top-five ranking nationally in singles to begin the season.
