Blazers Round Out Three-Game Homestand with Win Over Spring-Hill

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team defeated Spring-Hill College 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex to round out a three-game homestand and remain undefeated at home in the 2021 fall season.

The Blazers move to 4-1-1 on the season, and 1-0-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Badgers fall to 0-8 and 0-4 in GSC play.

VSU came out strong in the first half, outshooting the Badgers 7-1. Freshman forward Jocelyn Oballe found the back of the net in the 27th minute with the build-up chance created by sophomore forward Amber Saunders to give the Blazers an early lead, 1-0.  Saunders finished the match with three shots, one on frame and one assist while Oballe finished with one shot and one goal.

Sophomore midfielder Hannah Schroeder put the Blazers up 2-0 only a minute later after a poor clearance from the Badgers. Schroeder recorded her first goal of the 2021 season and her first career goal as a Blazer.

In the second half, the Badgers picked up a foul inside the box in the 51st minute and prompted graduate defender Lexie Hall to slot the penalty kick home for VSU to put the Blazers up 3-0. Hall recorded her first goal of the season and picked up her second career goal for the Blazers.

VSU's defense held up strong in the second half, with senior goalkeeper Samantha Blanford and freshman goalkeeper Emma Pruett combining minutes to keep the clean sheet for the Blazers. Blanford recorded 74 minutes for the Blazers while Pruett rounded out the game with 16 minutes.

Sophomore defender Samantha Worley scored off a corner kick from Ariana Colon in the 86th minute to bring the final scoreline to 4-0 in favor of the Blazers. Worley finished the match with three shots, two on goal, and recorded 59 minutes for VSU while also recording her first goal as a Blazer. VSU recorded 15 shots during the match with 10 on frame.

The series matchup between the Blazers and Spring-Hill marks the fifth win for VSU over the Badgers in program history, with the overall series moving to 5-0-2. The Blazers remain undefeated at home on the season, picking up a win against North Georgia on September 12 and a double-overtime draw against No. 9 West Florida last Friday.

Looking forward, the Blazers are on the road against Shorter on October 1, Lee on October 3, Mississippi College on October 8, and Delta State on October 10 before finally returning home to take on Union October 15 at 7 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex.
