VALDOSTA, GA. – The Valdosta State volleyball team drop a tough five set match to the Wolves of University of West Georgia as Blazer senior
Tammy Reyes-Perez and freshman
Kylie Stroehlein both record double doubles. Reyes-Perez recorded and led with 47 assists and 15 digs, while Stroehlein recording 11 kills and 19 digs. Â

First Set:Â
The Wolves started off the first set strong 4-1, but the Blazers rallied back with two blocks, tying the game at four. A UWG kill gave the lead back to the Wolves as they made the score 7-6. Â

A kill by senior
Jessie Mooney sent
Erin Ergle back to the serving line looking to start a rally, score 10-8. The Wolves took the ball back and continued their lead 13-10. A huge block by sophomore Kennedy Deluca brought the score difference to two, but that could not stop the lead of the Wolves, score 15-12. Â

Blazer head coach
Kaleigh Zoucha called a timeout to change the pace of the game as the Blazers trailed 17-14. VSU rallied off several points with kills by Mooney and graduate student
Deona Mims, and brought the game to 18-17, still in favor of the Wolves. Â

After another VSU timeout at 20-17, UWG goes on to take the first set 25-19.Â

Second Set:Â
The Wolves took the lead the second set, but VSU tied the game at four with a kill by Reyes-Perez. The Blazers gained the lead but a service error by VSU made the match tied up again at five. Â

With redshirt freshman
Lyara Rosario back at the serving line, Stroehlein recorded a kill and made the score 7-5 but the Wolves fought back and tied the match at seven. The Blazers took back the lead at 10-7 and caused a UWG timeout. Â

Having Reyes-Perez back at the serving line, the Blazers continued increased their lead to 13-8. The Wolves called another timeout as they trailed VSU 16-8. With Stroehlein at the serving line, the Blazers rallied off more points with kills by Mims, Deluca, and Mooney, score 21-10. Â

A kill by graduate student
Grace Daugherty set the Blazers up as they looked to finish the match, score 22-11. VSU proceeded to take the set 25-14.Â

Third Set:Â
The Blazers led the third set 3-1 with a kill and a service ace by Stroehlein. An attacking error gave the ball to the Wolves as they recorded a kill, score 4-3. Â

Daugherty recorded a kill and sent Rosario back to the serving line as she looked to keep the rally going, score 5-3. After a Wolves timeout, Mims recorded a kill and a block, followed by a Deluca kill as the Blazers led 16-8. Â

VSU forced UWG to take their final timeout and continued to lead 18-10 with Reyes-Perez back at the serving line as Deluca and Stroehlein record two more kills. The Wolves continued to fight back as the Blazers led 21-15. Â

With a kill by Stroehlein, the Blazers took set three 25-17.Â

Fourth Set:Â
VSU started off the fourth set strong 4-0, scoring off a kill by Mims and UWG errors. After a Wolves timeout, they rallied a few points off and brought VSU's lead to one, score 5-4. A Blazer's hitting error tied the game at five but a kill by Mims gave VSU the lead 6-5. Â

After a VSU timeout at 9-7, with the Wolves in the lead, UWG continued to stay ahead 13-9. The Blazers took their last timeout as they looked to turn the set around. A kill by Mims looked to change the pace of the game but a VSU service error gave the ball back to the Wolves, score 16-11. Â

A Deluca kill and Daugherty block brought the Wolves lead to four, 17-13. A Stroehlein kill brought the score to 21-17 and caused a timeout by the Wolves. Â

Following the timeout, a Daugherty block, Wolves attacking error, and Stroehlein kill made the score 21-20 as the Blazers trailed one. Â

UWG put down two kills and a block as they took the fourth set 25-21 and forced a fifth set.Â

Fifth Set:Â
The Blazers took the lead of the fifth set 2-1, with a Mims kill and a Reyes-Perez service ace. The Wolves fought back and took the lead 7-4 as VSU called a timeout. Â

Following the timeout, The Wolves scored two more points as the Blazers used their last timeout, score 9-4. With two Wolves errors the Blazers took the ball back and made the score 9-3 still in favor of the Wolves. Â

After a UWG timeout, VSU continued the rally but was shut down by a Wolves kill, score 10-7. A kill by Daugherty sent Rosario back to the serving line as she looked to start a rally and tie the set with the score at 11-8. Â

A Wolves hitting error and kill by Stroehlein brought the set to a one-point match, 11-10. A Mims kill made the score 13-11 but was followed by a Wolves kill giving them a three-point lead as they proceeded to take the final set 15-11 and the match 3-2.Â

Inside the Numbers:Â
VSU tallied 101 digs, 55 kills, 52 assists, five service aces, and 10 total blocks. Mims led the Blazers with 16 kills hitting a .163 and tallied 1 solo block and one block assist. Deluca followed with nine kills hitting a .333 while she added two solo block and 3 block assists. Daugherty also added six kills and three total blocks. Rosario led VSU in digs with 31 followed by Mooney with 18. Mooney also added eight kills. Perez and Stroehlein both added two service aces each.Â

The Blazer volleyball team continues play next weekend on October 1 in Memphis, Tenn. facing conference foe Christian Brothers at 7 pm. then Union (Tenn.) on October 2, in Jackson, Tenn. at 3 pm.Â

Following the weekend games, The Blazers take on Clark Atlanta in a non-conference matchup at 6 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.Â
