MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – The Blazer's volleyball team split final matches of their weekend series in Milledgeville, Ga. The Blazers lost the first match to Augusta University 3-0 then bounced back and beat the undefeated USC Aiken 3-1.
First Set:
Long rallies started off the first set as the Blazers took the lead, but the Jaguars eventually tied the game at three. The set continued to go back and forth.
Tammy Reyes-Perez was back at the serving line looking to pull away with the score line 7-7.
VSU gained a two-point lead, but the Jaguars fought back and started to pull away, 14-11.
After a Blazer timeout, a kill by
Deona Mims gave the ball back to VSU as they looked to start a rally, but was shut down by an Augusta kill, 17-12.
The Blazers continued to scratch back with a kill by
Kylie Stroehlein, Mims, and an ace by Perez which made the score 21-19, still in favor of the Jaguars.
Augusta University stopped the rally and proceeded to take the first set 25-19.
Second Set:
A kill by Mims and a service ace by Stroehlein started off the second set to give the Blazers the lead, 2-1. The Jaguars fought back and pulled away but two kills by
Jessie Mooney and Mims brought Augusta's led to one point, 8-7.
As the set went on, VSU continued to fight back but AU kept a four-point lead, score 17-13. After a Blazer's timeout, Stroehlein recorded two kills sending
Rebecca Sills back to the serving line as she looked to start a rally, 20-15.
The Jaguars took the second set 25-18.
Third Set:
AU started the third set with a kill and four VSU attacking errors which put them on top 5-0. A Jaguar service error gave the ball to the Blazers looking to bounce back.
With AU leading 7-1, VSU head coach
Kaleigh Zoucha, called a timeout looking to break the Jaguars momentum.
AU continued to lead 14-4 as VSU fought back to lessen the lead and eventually brought the game to 16-11.
The Jaguars went on and took the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
VSU tallied 25 kills, 61 digs, 25 assists, four blocks and three aces. Mooney, Mims, and Stroehlein all led the Blazers in kills recording six each.
Lyara Rosario led with 16 digs, followed by Stroehlein with 13, and Perez with 10. Perez also led the Blazers with 23 assists adding one ace and one block. Sills and Stroehlein also added an ace each. Mooney and Kennedy Deluca also added three kills each.

First Set:
VSU started the first set of the match scoring off USC Aiken hitting errors, but the Pacers fought back and eventually tied the set at three.
The Blazers gained a lead with kills by
Grace Daugherty and
Jessie Mooney which made the score 14-11. After an Aiken timeout at 18-12, the Pacers scored off two kills and a Blazer attacking error which made the score 18-15 and forced a VSU timeout.
The Pacers continued to fight back as they brought the Blazers lead to two, score 22-20 but VSU proceeded to win the first set 25-20.
Second Set:
A kill by
Deona Mims and a service ace by
Kylie Stroehlein started the second set off strong for the Blazers but the Pacers' attack tied the game back up at two.
VSU gained a six-point lead off errors made by USC Aiken, score 8-2. After a Pacers timeout, VSU continued to hold their lead 11-4. A kill by

Megan Stanton back to the serving line looking to tally more points.
Two kills by Kennedy Deluca with the help of Perez brought the score 18-7 as the Blazers looked to finish the set. After a Pacers timeout, the Blazers went on to win the second set 25-12.
Third Set:
VSU took the lead in the third set at 8-4 but USC Aiken fought back and brought the set to a one-point difference and proceeded to tie the game at 10.
The Pacers took the first lead of the match at 14-13 with a kill followed by a Blazer's timeout with the score 17-14.
Two kills by
Kylie Stroehlein gave the ball to the Blazers as they trailed 18-17 but a Deluca tied the match at 18.
USC Aiken started to pull away as they scored off VSU errors, 21-19. The Pacers went on and won the third set 25-21 and forced a fourth set.
Fourth Set:
The fourth set started with kill by USC Aiken but was followed with a kill by VSU's
Kylie Stroehlein. Tied at two, Deluca recorded a kill putting the Blazers in the lead.
VSU rallied a four-point led with kills by
Grace Daugherty and
Jessie Mooney, score 7-3. The Pacers continued to scratch back but VSU kept their lead.
After USC Aikens second timeout, VSU still led 14-10. A kill by Mooney kept the Blazers ahead 19-12 and the blazing offense won the set, 25-17, and the match 3-1.
Inside the Numbers:
VSU tallied 82 digs, 54 kills, 54 assists, seven aces, and six blocks. Daugherty led the Blazers with 12 kills as Deona and DeLuca followed with 11.
Lyara Rosario led with 21 digs as Mooney and Stroehlein each added 16. Also, Stroehlein recorded another double double adding 10 kills. Leading the Blazers in assist was Perez as she tallied 45 while adding one ace. Daugherty led with four blocks with Mims adding three and Mooney adding two. The Blazers finished with a .253 hitting percentage.
