Hanson and Weathers Named to All-Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Second Team

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State sophomore Chase Weathers and senior Wesley Hanson were named to the All-Gulf South Conference Second Team, the league office announced Monday.  This is the first all-conference honor for both players.
 
Hanson, a native of Macon, Ga., earned GSC Freshman of the Year honors in 2018 and has been named the GSC Spring Men's Golf Champion Scholar-Athlete each of the past two seasons.  He also earned Third Team Academic All-America® as selected by CoSIDA honors last season, marking the first Blazer in program history to do so. 
 
This season, Hanson has played in seven tournaments for 21 rounds with a 73.4 stroke average.  His best finish was a tied for seventh at the GSC championship Apr. 18-19, 2021.  Hanson fired 19 rounds in the 70s and a career-best 66 at the Saint Leo Invitational in the second.  A total of 19 of his rounds this season have been used in the team score. 
 
For his career, he has played in 22 tournaments for 73 rounds for a 75.3 stroke average.  He has fired 64 rounds in the 70s and the one 66.  Hanson has been on the GSC Academic Honor Roll each of his years at VSU and has a 4.0 grade-point average in management and a minor in accounting.
 
Weathers, a native of St. Marys, Ga., has played in six tournaments for a 74.28 average for 18 rounds.  He has a career-low 67 at the Saint Leo Invitational (Feb. 22-23), finishing a season-best tied for seventh.  Weathers has 16 rounds in the 70s this season.  He has been named to the GSC Academic Honor Roll twice and has played 37 rounds and 13 tournaments for his career.  He has a 74.5 stroke average for his career and has 34 rounds in the 70s and two in the 60s.  He has fired a 67 each of the past two seasons at the Saint Leo Invitational for a career-best score.
 
Hanson and Weathers will return to action as the Blazers earned a berth in the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional, scheduled for May 6-8, in Bowling Green, Fla., at Streamsong Resort. 
 
League-champion West Florida had four players named to the first team and five players overall, while Alejandro Restrepo was named Golfer of the Year and Argo head coach Steve Fell was named Coach of the Year.  Lee's Oliver Lewis-Perkins was tabbed Freshman of the Year.
