Blazer Volleyball Set to Host Senior Day in The Complex

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team faces the Bulldogs of Union University on Sunday Nov. 7 at 1 p.m., for Senior Day at The Complex. The Blazers are celebrating six seniors who have made a tremendous impact on the Valdosta State Volleyball team: Tammy Reyes-Perez, Rebecca Sills, Megan Stanton, Deona Mims, Zoey Chilcote, and Grace Daugherty.


Reyes-Perez is from Bayamon, P.R., and has played in 103 matches since 2017 and has recorded 254 kills, 3,082 assists, 415 points, 103 aces, 776 digs and 108 blocks. She is a health science major and plans to return to P-T school in Florida after graduation.
 
Sills is from Stuart, Fla., and has played in 59 matches over three years, combining for six kills, 113 assists, 37 points, 31 aces and 578 digs. After graduation, Rebecca plans on taking some time off to travel before getting her masters in neuroscience.  
 
Stanton hails from Newark, Ohio, and has played in 69 matches over three years and has recorded four kills, 21 assists, 23 points, 19 aces, and 280 digs. Megan is a health science major and nutritional studies minor and plans to find a job in the medical sales field after graduation.
 
Mims calls Spartanburg, Ga., home and has played in 29 matches this year and has recorded 204 kills, eight assists, 242 points, 14 aces and 41 blocks. She is currently working on her master's in social work and plans to attend law school after she graduates in 2023.  
 
Chilcote is from Davie, Fla., and has played in 22 matches over two years and has recorded 23 kills, two assists, 38 points, nine digs and 26 blocks. She is currently studying environmental geoscience with a concentration in geography. After graduation Zoey plans to travel to all the national parks with hopes to work at her favorite one.
 
Daugherty is from Gainesville, Fla., and has played in 63 matches over three years and has recorded 368 kills, ten assists, 451 points, five aces, 71 digs and 137 blocks. She received her undergraduate degree earlier this year in biology from Valdosta State and is currently finishing out her master of science and biology degree. After graduation, Grace plans to become a conservation botanist.
 
VSU looks to bounce back from its last matchup against the Bulldogs on Oct. 2, as Union took the match 3-0. The Blazers have 12 wins and three losses against Union and their longest win streak against the bulldogs is nine matches. 
 
The Blazers are currently 12-17 overall and 5-8 in conference as they defeated the Bucs of Christian Brothers Friday evening for their inaugural Youth Volleyball Night. 
 
This season, the Blazers are second in the GSC and 18th nationally in total attacks with 3,832, while they are fourth in the GSC in assists (1,159) for 34th nationally.  VSU is third in the GSC and 35th nationally in team digs with 1,679 and fifth in the GSC in team kills (1,232).  The Blazers are sixth in the GSC and 63rd nationally in service aces with 158.  
 
Individually, Reyes-Perez is second in the GSC in assists per set (9.35), while she is tenth nationally (second in GSC) in total assists with 991. Redshirt freshman Lyara Rosario is 22nd nationally and first in the GSC in total digs with 512.  She also leads the GSC in digs per set at a 4.79 clip for 62nd nationally. Reigning GSC Freshman of the Week, Jojo Smith, is second in the GSC in kills per set, averaging 3.79 on the season and has recorded 254 kills for the year and swinging at a 1.67 clip.
