GSC Tournament History

The Valdosta State soccer program is no stranger to the GSC Tournament. In the program's first year, the team defeated the West Florida Argonauts 5-3 in penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw to advance to the semifinals. The Blazers fell to North Alabama, 5-3 in the championship match, to end the 2011 season.

In the 2012 season, the Blazers faced the West Georgia Wolves in the first round of the GSC tournament and fell 1-0. The Blazers also had their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012 but lost 1-0 to North Alabama in the first round.

For the 2013 season, the Blazers battled to a 2-1 loss against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers. The season marked the second year in the row the team made the NCAA tournament but fell to Florida Tech, 1-0 in the first round.

2014 marked a standout year for the Blazers. The Blazers defeated West Florida, 2-1, and then North Alabama, 3-0, to clinch the team's first GSC Championship. The Blazers also picked up their first win in the NCAA tournament, 1-0 against the Christian Brothers Buccaneers, but fell to Rollins 1-0 in the second round.

The 2015 and 2016 seasons were the only years the Blazers haven't appeared in the GSC tournament since the program's start.

In 2017, the Blazers returned to the GSC tournament with a 3-3 draw versus North Alabama, but advanced 5-4 on penalty kicks to the semifinals, before a 5-1 loss to Lee 5-1 in the semifinals.

In 2018, the Blazers fell to West Alabama, 2-0 in the opening match and in 2019, the Blazers fell to Lee in double overtime in the first round. The 2019 season saw Lee win in the 109th minute of double overtime, 1-0 in the first round.

Last year, the Blazers fell to aforementioned West Alabama in the Spring Championship Series second round. All GSC teams made the championship series last year as the 2020 Fall season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
