VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team won its fifth-straight match and 11
th of the season with a 3-0 victory over Shorter Saturday afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex. The Blazers improved to 11-6 on the season and finished Gulf South Conference play with a 9-4 record.
Prior to the match, the Blazers honored six seniors who played their final regular season game in a VSU uniform. Seniors

Ashley Lewis,
Taylor Snell and
Riley Tennant comprised the 2019 senior class.
It didn't long for the Blazers to get on the board as Lewis scored her ninth goal of the season at the 7:15 mark on a rebound shot as she initially hit the post and then cleaned up the mess. Just seven minutes later, Snell scored her second goal of the season with Lewis picking up the assist on a great pass, resulting in a clean finish from center.

Amber Saunders picking up the assist at the 34:21 mark in the first half on a low pass from Saunders to Johnson for the shot to the lower corner.
The Blazers dominated the half with a 15-3 lead in shots. Neither team scored in the second half as VSU tallied 20 shots for the match and 11 on frame. Shorter (2-15-1, 2-10-1 GSC) had six shots for the match with five on frame.

Caroline Embler tallied five saves for the clean sheet and her seventh shutout of the season. She has allowed just one goal in the past five matches.
The Blazers now will head to the Gulf South Conference Tournament where they will face Lee on Tuesday as the No. 5-seed in the tournament. VSU will travel to Cleveland, Miss., for a 3 p.m. ET matchup with No. 4-seeded Lee. The Blazers upset the No. 17-ranked Lee Flames on Thursday, 2-0 in Valdosta.
