THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team snapped an eleven-match losing streak on Friday night in its 3-0 win over West Alabama.
First Set:
- Five errors doomed the Tigers early, as the Blazers took an early lead.
- VSU had a .164 hitting percentage in the first set, with a match-high 18 kills.
- The Blazers used multiple runs to overcome a late rally from the UWA.
Second Set:
- VSU started hot again in the second set, taking an early lead.
- UWA rallied back to close the gap to 22-20.
- VSU held off another late rally from the Tigers, to take the second set.
Third Set:
- VSU jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead.
- UWA battled back, using a 4-2 run to close the deficit to 11-8.
- The Blazers used an 11-8 run, to take a 22-16 lead.
- After a late rally from the Tigers, VSU used a .180 hitting percentage to take the set and the match.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Blazers finished with 46 kills and a .166 hitting percentage
- Freshman Kennedy DeLuca impressed with 12 kills and three blocks
- Senior Dariah Powell continued her fantastic play with a double-double (10 kills and 13 digs).
- Junior Rebecca Sills tallied 19 digs and four assists.
- Freshman Keelyn Williams accounted for ten kills and 10.5 total points.
