Volleyball Snaps Losing Streak, defeats West Alabama 3-0

The Basics:
Score: Valdosta State 3, West Alabama 0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-20)
Records: Valdosta State: 12-19 (4-11 GSC), West Alabama 10-21 (4-11)
 
THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team snapped an eleven-match losing streak on Friday night in its 3-0 win over West Alabama.
 
First Set:
  • Five errors doomed the Tigers early, as the Blazers took an early lead.
  • VSU had a .164 hitting percentage in the first set, with a match-high 18 kills.
  • The Blazers used multiple runs to overcome a late rally from the UWA.
Second Set:
  • VSU started hot again in the second set, taking an early lead.
  • UWA rallied back to close the gap to 22-20.
  • VSU held off another late rally from the Tigers, to take the second set.
 
Third Set:
  • VSU jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead.
  • UWA battled back, using a 4-2 run to close the deficit to 11-8.
  • The Blazers used an 11-8 run, to take a 22-16 lead.
  • After a late rally from the Tigers, VSU used a .180 hitting percentage to take the set and the match.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Blazers finished with 46 kills and a .166 hitting percentage
  • Freshman Kennedy DeLuca impressed with 12 kills and three blocks
  • Senior Dariah Powell continued her fantastic play with a double-double (10 kills and 13 digs).
  • Junior Rebecca Sills tallied 19 digs and four assists.
  • Freshman Keelyn Williams accounted for ten kills and 10.5 total points.
