MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team battled back from an early 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 win at Christian Brothers on Friday evening.  VSU improved to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in Gulf South Conference play, while Christian Brothers fell to 8-6-1 and 4-5-1 in league play.

CBU jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds into the contest on a goal from Bailey Tadlock and an assist from Mya Gargone.  It was the quickest goal scored by the opposition against the Blazers this season.

VSU settled down and continued to fight as senior Taylor Snell had a good look in the 16th minute and senior Ashley Lewis came up with a great score at the 26:42 mark in the first half on an assist from freshman Amber Saunders.  It was Lewis' team-leading eighth goal of the season.

The game was all square at one through the first half as the Blazers had five shots in the first stanza and the Bucs had six shots.

VSU had a great look from Lewis, but CBU goalkeeper Riley Chafin was up to the task at the 53:07 mark and moments later Saunders had a shot that sailed right.  VSU earned a corner kick at the 65:56 mark and 20 seconds later freshman Mallory Johnson found the back of the net for her first goal as a Blazer and a 2-1 lead.

CBU had just one shot the rest of the game, as Tadlock fired wide left at the 86:59 mark, while VSU had seven shots over the final 25 minutes, including a shot from junior Lyana Steele, which required a team save from the Bucs.

For the match, VSU finished with 17 shots and 10 on goal, while CBU had 11 shots and three on frame.  The Bucs had eight saves in the match, while VSU had two from junior Caroline Embler.  VSU held a 5-3 lead in penalty kicks.

Lewis finished with five shots and four on goal with a score, while Johnson had five shots and three on goal off the bench with the game winner.  Tadlock had three shots and two on goal for the Bucs with the lone goal for CBU.

VSU returns to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at Union University.  Fans can access links to live stats and streaming of the match at vstateblazers.com.
