VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team used their best offensive outing of the 2018 season to blow by the Barons of Brewton-Parker in a non-conference slugfest on Tuesday afternoon at Billy Grant Field in Valdosta, Ga.
The game went back and forth in the early innings of the game, as the Blazers posted two runs in the bottom half of the first, before the Barons returned fire with two runs of their own in the top of the following frame.
Valdosta State took control of the game in the bottom of the third with five hits in a four-run fourth, and the Blazers broke the game wide open in the fourth. While sending 10 batters to the plate, VSU racked up six runs on four hits to take a 12-2 lead.
With the help of home runs by Aaron Haughton and Kendall Herron, the red and black continued to pour on down the stretch with multiple runs in both the seventh and the eighth innings. The end result was a lopsided 19-4 lead, which lifted the Blazers to 15-24 on the season.
Every batter in the Blazer lineup reached safely at least once, and Dalton Murray highlighted the effort with a 4-for-4 performance that included two doubles and four RBI's. Luke Suchon added two doubles of his own, one of which landed 400 feet from home plate at the base of the green monster in center.
Tristan Cone, who came on in the third and gave the Blazers 3.1 innings of work in the middle of the game, scored the victory and improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Blazers will return to action for their final regular season series at home this weekend. Valdosta State will host the Hawks of Shorter for a three game series, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
